DigiTimes reports notebook original design manufacturers (ODM) are aggressively competing to land gaming laptop orders from brand vendors. The site notes that due to the increased competition in the gaming laptop market, brand vendors are looking for ways to shave costs including more stricly controlling component cost in order to keep pricing competitive:
Lenovo and Razer's partnership is expected to create pressure for existing brand vendors such as Dell, Asustek Computer, Micro-Star International (MSI) and Acer as well as affecting the orders with the two brand vendors' ODM partners BYD and Gigabyte Technology.

In addition to Alienware branded products for the high-end segment, Dell has recently launched its Inspiron 7000-series designed specifically for the mid-range and entry-level segments.
Dell's Alienware gaming laptops are made by Compal Electronics, while Clevo takes gaming laptop orders from Chinese firms Haier and Hasee, as well as European discount brand Medion.
