Given the bad prospects of the motherboard market, ASUS will reportedly shift its development focus to new types of devices including Internet of Things (IoT) applications, robots and virtual and augmented reality products. DigiTimes does note that these new segments are unlikely to be major revenue contributors in the short term.
In addition to its home-care robot Zenbo, introduced at Computex 2016, Asustek is planning to announce a mobile VR device in the third quarter and will unveil mobile AR and PC VR solutions in the first quarter of 2017.

Since VR and robots are still emerging products and related demand has not yet picked up, the new businesses are unlikely to bring in significant contributions to Asustek's revenues initially.
