AMD has hired a former IBM executive to take charge of its silicon design efforts.

The company appointed Jeff VerHeul, who worked 25 years for IBM, as its corporate vice president of silicon design. VerHeul will be responsible for all of AMD's future computing products.

He will also work closely together with Dirk Meyer, AMD's Microprocessor Solutions Sector group president and CEO.
