Next year AMD is expected to introduce "Naples", a 14nm server processor with 32 cores capable of running a total of 64 threads. FUD Zilla reports Naples' successorwill not be a 10nm chip, instead AMD will jump straight to 7nm. Codenamed "Starship", this future server processor is expected in 2018 and promises to deliver up to 48 cores and 96 threads in a 180W TDP.
This server chip will have 48 cores and 96 thread support. There will be versions with fewer cores that will make it into mainstream servers and desktop computers.

Starship is still a concept project and if all goes well, you might see it as soon as 2018. When a company tells you it is doing something for 2018, this probably means late 2018, but it still sounds rather impressive.
The news also implies that 7nm Zen desktop processors may be just 18-24 months away.
