id Software rolled out a new update for Doom that introduces support for the Vulkan API. The game developer claims the Vulkan mode will offer better performance at higher video settings:
id Software says users with minimum-spec hardware will get "better performance at higher video settings," while folks with heavier-duty systems "will experience exceptional performance with Doom's advanced video settings cranked up to full effect." Players will be prompted to choose OpenGL or Vulkan mode upon starting the game with the new update installed.
A couple of months ago at the GeForce GTX 1080 launch event, NVIDIA showed a Vulkan version of Doom running at well over 100fps with all settings cranked up to the max.
