LG and Valve are showing off a prototype of the SteamVR headset at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. This VR headset features 3.64" OLED screens that deliver 1440 x 1280 pixels per eye with a refresh rate of 90Hz. The headset has a higher resolution than the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift, and according to UploadVR the prototype worked well:
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in LG’s headset. It features a pass through camera as well, but we didn’t use it. The tracking sensors are nearly invisible hidden along the surface of the device. I was asked by LG when I came out whether I noticed any visual problems in the headset, and I really didn’t. It felt like a smooth, highly detailed visual experience from start to finish and I look forward to a hopefully longer visit with the new headset in the future.
LG said the device will be launched at a similar price as current-gen VR hardware. They're still making further improvements and it's unknown when we can expect it in stores.
