PC market facing memory and display panel shortages in 2H 2017

DigiTimes reports its sources in the upstream supply chain are concerned that PC shipments may be undermined by component shortages throughout the rest of the year. Prices of DRAM are expected to increase further and the site also write 18:9 full-screen a-Si display panels face a nearly 10 percent price hike this quarter. DigiTimes claims the shortage will be worse in Q4 2017 than in Q3 2017.

Strong demand from smartphone makers is, at least partly, to blame for the shortages:
With first-tier vendors including Samsung Electronics, Apple and LG Electronics expected to unveil new smartphones in the second half of 2017, upstream component shortages are expected to worsen and could impact PC shipments during the period, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Because of the shortages, suppliers of components such as memory and panels are expected to enjoy better revenue performance than downstream vendors in the second half.
