GlobalFoundries CTO Gary Patton revealed that his company will be able to mass produce chips on the new 12nm LP process in Q1 2018.
Globalfoundries is also planning the rollout of its 12nm leading-performance (12LP) FinFET manufacturing process to deliver better density and a performance boost over its current-generation 14nm FinFET offering. The 12LP node will be ready for volume production in the first quarter of 2018, according to the foundry.
This process is marketed as 12nm but it's basically an enhancement of the firm's 14nm node. AMD confirmed yesterday it will use the 12LP process for a refresh of its CPU and GPU lineups.
