Cloudflare tested the new ARM-based Qualcomm Centriq server platform and compared it with Intel's Purley and Grantley server platforms. The content delivery network received an engineering sample of the Qualcomm Falkor and concludes it's a huge step up versus any previous ARM server platform attempts.

The Falkor engineering sample has 46 cores and is clocked at 2.5GHz, which is lower than the 48 cores at 2.6GHz that will be offered by the final version. On a core for core basis, Intel's Skylake is far superior but in terms of overall system performance the Falkor is very attractive and also has a much lower power consumption.

The image below is just one of the many benchmarks performed by Cloudflare, you can check out all the other the benchmarks over here. ARM-based servers will need to mature more but it's clear that AMD's EPYC isn't the only thing Intel has to worry about in the server processor market.
