Toshiba announces helium-filled 14TB HDD with 9 platters

Western Digital already has a 14TB helium-filled HDD and now Toshiba reveals a 14TB helium-filled model of its own. The Toshiba MG07ACA disks use PMR technology, you can get them in 12TB (eight platters) and 14TB (nine platters) capacities.

The maximum data transfer rate of these disks is 250MB/s (12TB) and 260MB/s (14TB). Toshiba offers a five-year warranty but the availability of these disks is still some time away from us. Sampling starts in a couple of weeks and availability is expected sometime in March or April of 2018. The pricing is unknown but these disks are primarily aimed at datacenters.
