Earlier this week, there was quite a ruckus as an AMD employee wrote on the company's message boards that issues with DirectX 9 games were unlikely to get fixed. Lots of gamers still enjoy old classics like Red Alert 3 and they were dismayed by the news that AMD wouldn't dedicate engineering resources to fixing these issues, which were caused by the introduction of the Radeon Software Adrenalin driver branch.

Anyway, AMD's Terry Makedon quickly downplayed the event and said the statement from the AMD support member wasn't accurate. Now the company is rushing out a new alpha driver that fixes DirectX 9 game issues, you can grab the Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.1.1 Alpha release over here.
This early access driver is being provided for users who have had issues launching a small number of DirectX 9 based games. This alpha driver has not been fully tested by AMD and is not recommended for general use.
If you don't play old games there's no need to install this driver.
