WSJ reports there's new controversy about the Meltdown and Spectre CPU flaws as word got out that Intel first disclosed the vulnerabilities to a select number of customers. In particular, the decision to inform Chinese firms like Lenovo and Alibaba, but leaving out the US government, raises concerns. Security experts fear this could have allowed information about Spectre and Meltdown to fall into the hands of the Chinese government, before it was publicly disclosed.
In initial disclosures about critical security flaws discovered in its processors, Intel Corp. notified a small group of customers, including Chinese technology companies, but left out the U.S. government, according to people familiar with the matter and some of the companies involved.
