NVIDIA GPU prices dropping but still a lot higher than in December

We all know video cards are expensive right now as demand from the cryptocurrency market caused a lot of imbalances. Over the last couple of weeks, we've seen prices go down again so it's interesting to take a step back and see how pricing has trended over the last couple of months.

German tech site ComputerBase did this exercise and concludes there's been some improvement, although this is exclusively true for NVIDIA cards. Pricing of AMD cards has remained roughly stable the last couple of weeks, and is still up 14 to 31 percent versus early December 2017.

Prices of NVIDIA cards on the other hand are now up just 5 to 11 percent versus early December 2017, and there's been a noticeable drop in pricing since February 2018. The GeForce GTX 1060 dropped 10 percent in price since the start of this month, although ComputerBase points out this is exclusively the case for the Inno3D GeForce GTX 1060 Compact X1, other available GTX 1060 cards are only 3 percent cheaper than two weeks ago.

Basically, it's good that prices are no longer going up, but prices are still highly elevated versus what they should be at this point in the cycle.
