DigiTimes reports big changes are going on in the global gaming laptop market as new and existing players are turning up the heat. ASUS and MSI are on the losing side as both companies are seeing their marketshare drop in this lucrative market. Gaming laptop sales were growing strongly and have higher margins than traditional laptops, which lured a lot of new players to this market segment. For consumers this is good news, as the increased competition is resulting in an increased focus on pricing strategies.
The sources said that such first-tier notebook brands as HP, Dell, Acer and Lenovo have aggressively forayed into the gaming device market, launching low-price promotion campaigns in various regional markets in addition to rolling out new models and strengthening their brand marketing efforts.

These vendors have also spent heavily sponsoring gaming teams or hosting gaming events to promote sales of their gaming devices over the past year, just as what Asustek and MSI have been doing. Such efforts have worked well, with Lenovo, for instance, having captured a market share of over 30% in China, and Dell's Alienware-branded gaming notebooks also performing well in both shipments and profits for all product segments.
