The biggest semiconductor news of last week was the announcement that GlobalFoundries' 7nm process is a bust. The company halted development indefinitely, and AMD shifted all its 7nm manufacturing to TSMC.

Now Italian tech site Bits 'n Chips claims that Abu Dhabi's ATIC is in the process of looking for a buyer for GlobalFoundries. ATIC owns about 90 percent of GlobalFoundries, the investment vehicle's goal was to diversity out of fossil fuels but the whole semiconductor endeavour hasn't really been a smashing hit.

As the site reports, this isn't the first time this rumor surfaces, but this time there may not be a saving angel:
It’s not the first time we hear this rumor, but this time there will not be another IBM, ready to donate 1.5 billion dollars and the foundry business almost for free.
