Word is going around that Intel will be adding a bunch of new 9th Gen Core processors for the LGA2066 socket, basically a Refresh of Basin Falls. The new models will feature six to eighteen cores, with the flagship being the Core i9-9980XE. Intel is skipping the 8th Gen Core naming and jumping straight to 9th Gen for this release. These seven CPUs are expected to be out in October or November:
  • Core i9-9980XE (18 Core Flagship)
  • Core i9-9960X (16 Core)
  • Core i9-9940X (14 Core)
  • Core i9-9920X (12 Core)
  • Core i9-9900X (10 Core)
  • Core i9-9820X (8 Core)
  • Core i7-9800X (6 Core)
  • A new flagship Skylake-X HEDT platform with the LGA3647 socket is expected to follow towards the end of this year. Those parts are expected to feature up to 28 cores and 56 threads. Basin Falls Refresh is compatible with X299 chipsets, while LGA3647 Skylake-X will require X599 (naming not official yet).
