Facebook looking to buy major cybersecurity company

Four sources familiar with Facebook's plans told The Information that the social network is shopping for a major cybersecurity firm. Facebook reportedly wants to clean up its image, and ensure it has the expertise to keep the data of its users safe.
In an effort to repair its tattered reputation around data protection, Facebook is stepping up efforts to acquire a major cybersecurity firm, according to four people familiar with the matter.
The site heard from its sources that Facebook approached multiple security firms about an acquisition, and that a deal could happen by the end of the year. Facebook landed itself in hot water in recent years year, with incidents like the Cambridge Analytica tracking scandal, complaints about facilitating the spread of fake news, and a recent security breach that affected about 30 million accounts.
