ASUS and Gigabyte used to be the two main forces in the motherboard market but in recent years the former has increasingly flexed its muscles. Sales of motherboards have been declining for quite some time now but ASUS is able to weather the storm pretty good.

DigiTimes writes ASUS may be the only motherboard maker capable of shipping over 10 million motherboards in 2019, which would mean a big drop for Gigabyte. This year's motherboard sales at ASUS are expected to stay at 16 million units, the same as the year before. Rival Gigabyte on the other hand is expected to see its shipments decline from 12.7 million in 2017 to 12 million units in 2018.

ASUS already has a marketshare of over 50 percent in many markets, and now the firm is gunning to achieve a global marketshare of 60 percent:
Asustek has not only stayed as the number one motherboard vendor in China, the US, and Europe, but also seen its market shares hit a new high of over 50% in Southeast Asia, Japan and South Korea so far this year, the sources continued.

Kris Huang, general manager of Gaming Gear & ACCY Business Unit at Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG), said that he is confident that Asustek will continue to enjoy unshakeable leadership in the motherboard sector. He stressed that Asustek's latest high-end ROG gaming motherboard featuring Intel Z390 chipset is expected to enjoy booming patronage from customers, helping to drive up the firm's global market share to over 60% and boost its average selling price (ASP) for motherboards.
