Take it with a grain of salt, but WCCF Tech claims they dug up details about AMD's future Navi GPU. As you may know, AMD is expected to introduce a third-generation Polaris GPU later this week. With the cryptocurrency tailwind gone, AMD's GPU sales are suffering and the 12nm Polaris will have to keep its GPU sales from collapsing even further until the arrival of Navi in 2019.

The site claims AMD has finalized the first Navi design, it's codenamed Navi 12 and it reportedly has 40 CUs. Navi is said to be created for use in the next-generation PlayStation, Navi 12 is believed to be a derivative created specifically to target the PC gaming audience.

Word on the street is that in terms of performance, Navi 12 will be somewhere around the Vega 56 - but at a much cheaper price. If WCCF Tech is correct, you can expect a launch sometime in the first half of 2019.

Some other tidbits:
  • There is no 7nm Vega for the desktop market

  • Navi 10 is either cancelled or slated for late 2019 or early 2020. This part could offer full-Vega performance.

  • Navi 20 to be the next real high-end GPU, this one is expected in late 2020 or 2021.

  • Navi uses a post-GCN architecture
