Intel Core i9-9900K hits 5.5GHz on motherboard with unsupported Z170 chipset (video)

While motherboards with 100-series and 200-series officially don't support the 8th Gen and 9th Gen Core processors from Intel, it's not a secret that this is largely an artificial limitation. With some BIOS modding, it's possible to get these chips to work on older motherboards, and that's exactly what Finnish overclocker Luumi did with the Core i9-9900K.

He managed to overclock the chip to 5.5GHz on all cores using the ASRock Z170M OC Formula Micro-ATX motherboard. The chip was stable in both CineBench and Prime95.
