Industry sources told DigiTimes that the pricing of USB Type-C interface chips is on track to decline by over 20 percent in 2019. More supply is coming online and that will result in lower prices.
The sources said that already becoming the mainstream interface for PCs and notebooks, Type-C interface is expected to soon dominate interface solutions for mobile device transmission and charging operations.

Also, Type-C is increasingly applied to tablets, smart speakers, small household electrical appliances and portable external hard drives, and may become a mainstream data transmission interface at datacenters. The ensuing huge application opportunities have prompted existing Taiwan designers of Type-C power delivery (PD) and controller chips to develop integrated solutions, while also driving many peers to jump on the bandwagon.
