Former AMD marketing guy Jason Evangelho writes on Forbes that the upcoming AMD Radeon VII video card will feature Day 1 Linux support. As you may know, this 7nm Vega based consumer card is scheduled for a February 7 launch and will cost $699.
That's right around the corner, so some of my readers have a burning question: will there be Day 1 Linux support?

The answer is an emphatic "yes" according to an AMD PR representative I spoke to over the weekend. We can expect the Radeon VII to be gaming ready on Day 1 right out of the box.

That wasn't the case with the Radeon RX 590 due to some last-minute vBIOS changes, which Michael at Phoronix covered extensively.
On a related note, Linux site Phoronix reports Vega 10 and newer video card will also be getting more fine-grained PowerPlay controls on Linux with the upcoming Linux 5.1 kernel release.
