Micron refreshes its entry-level SSD with 96-layer NAND

Micron has replaced its 1100 entry-level SSD with the 1300. Not a whole lot changed, the new version packs 96-layer 3D NAND memory of the TLC variety, whereas the previous model used 64-layer NAND. The performance isn't record-breaking, these disks primarily aim at low pricing. They should be available in retail stores soon.

The Micron 1300 will be offered in up to 2TB capacities in 2.5" packaging and up to 1TB in M.2 form.
There's no such confusion over the performance specs. Micron says the 1300 should perform sequential reads and writes at 530 MB/sec and 520 MB/sec, respectively. Random performance isn't bad for a SATA SSD, either, at 90K IOPS on reads and 87K IOPS on writes.
