AMD distributed a slide that clarifies Socket AM4 upgrade paths. Most AMD 300-series based motherboards, with exception of the A320, support the new Zen 2-based Ryzen 3000 series processors, but this will depend on the support provided by the motherboard maker.
Interestingly, it appears the odd one out is the upcoming AMD X570 chipset. Motherboards based on this chipset will support 2nd and 3rd generation Ryzen processors, but they will not be compatibility with first-generation chips like Summit Ridge and Raven Ridge. The reason for this is unknown.
