Swedish tech site SweClockers heard from sources inside AMD that the upcoming Radeon RX 5000 series is not entirely based on the new RDNA GPU architecture. If this rumor is accurate, the upcoming Navi cards are basically a hybrid of GCN and RDNA, with a "pure" RDNA version to follow with the future Navi 20 GPU in 2020.

Allegedly, AMD didn't adopt RDNA entirely for the first-gen Navi GPUs because this would mean that today's video games and game engines would need to start from scratch in terms of optimization.

With Navi 20, AMD hopes to make a return to the top performance segment, a market it hasn't been competitive in for quite some time now.
