DigiTimes picked up rumors that construction of Foxconn's 300mm fab in Zhuhai, China may kick off in 2020. The electronics giant hasn't been active in chip production before, but is keen to build its own billion-dollar fab to satisfy some of its chip demand.

The site says the plant will be operated as an integrated device manufacturer (IDM), which will produce 8K, 5G, and AI chip solutions.
