Multi-GPU technology received a lot of attention from video card makers over the past two decades but it never really became mainstream. These days, I think that with a couple of exceptions, the only folks using multi-GPU are people working for tech publications and overclockers. For real-life gaming there's just too little benefit and too much hassle.

As such, it's no surprise that both AMD and NVIDIA are no longer pushing CrossFire and SLI. Over at the Hot Chips conference, AMD CEO Lisa Su reiterated that CrossFire is not a significant focus for AMD:
"To be honest, the software is going faster than the hardware, I would say that CrossFire isn't a significant focus," Dr. Su said in response to a question about the technology.
She did confirm that a new Threadripper line is on the way.
