Windows 10 marketshare now exceeds 50 percent

NetMarketShare published its August 2019 dataset and it reveals that Microsoft's Windows 10 is now the most popular operating system in the desktop and laptop markets. The newest version of Windows now has a marketshare of 50.99 percent, a big increase versus July's 48.86 percent.

Since the start of the year, Windows 10 has seen its marketshare soar 10.09 percentage points. Windows 7 on the other hand fell from 37.19 percent to 30.34 percent.

Windows 8.1 still has 4.20 percent of the market, 0.63 percent still use the original Windows 8 and another 1.57 percent think it's still safe to use Windows XP on an Internet-connected machine.

Various Linux distros add up to another 1.7 percent of the market and the remaining marketshare is split between various versions of Apple's macOS.
