With its Cascade Lake-X just around the corner, Intel is reportedly preparing a big clearance sale for Skylake-X. TweakTown heard rumors that Intel will cut the pricing of its Skylake-X processors by 50 percent to make these chips more attractive.
Intel will most likely take the hit in terms of subsidizing the cuts, or else it will see distributors, wholesalers, and retailers feeling a far too impactful price cut. Intel on the other hand might lose some profits over this, but it's being forced to do this to better combat AMD and its continued threat with Zen 2.
A leaked slide that reportedly originated from Intel recently revealed that the chip giant may be taking a $3 billion hit this year by offering discounts to make its CPU portfolio more attractive. The chip giant sees its scale as one of the big advantages it has versus AMD. The much smaller AMD has made an impressive comeback but Intel is still the financial powerhouse.
