World of Warcraft is nearly 15 years old but the MMO is still going strong. In an interview at BlizzCon 2019, Senior Game Producer Michael Bybee and Lead Software Engineer Patrick Magruder revealed that the team is looking at adding ray tracing to a future version of the game.

No specifics were mentioned but it seems Blizzard is still interested in upgrading the game with the latest technologies. Previously, Blizzard added DirectX 12 support to the game and even made DirectX 12 on Windows 7 a thing.

Ray tracing may be added with Shadowlands, the eight expansion pack for the MMO. Shadowlands is expected in 2020.
MMO-Champion, one of the foremost sources of World of Warcraft news, managed to interview Senior Game Producer Michael Bybee and Lead Software Engineer Patrick Magruder during the event. Yesterday they shared plenty of tidbits learned from that chat and there is one that is going to be particularly interesting for our readers, as Blizzard seems to be looking into adding raytracing to the World of Warcraft engine with Shadowlands.
