Nikkei Asian Review reports ARM's Chinese subsidiary is now a key player in China's quest for self-sufficiency in the chip market. The report notes that in less than a year, ARM China has not only developed its own AI chip but also a new processor architecture. ARM China sells and licenses its parent's technology in China, but now that it's also developing its own IP it can circumvent trade bans that could affect the UK-based parent.
"The goal of Arm China is to help all Chinese chip developers and other product makers to use Chinese-controlled technologies -- not only for the domestic market but for global markets," said William Liu, Arm China's vice president of product development.

"In the future, these China-developed technologies could even become world leaders and have a say on the global stage," he added.
