A plausible leak emerges that we may still get a 48-core Threadripper from AMD. Take it with a grain of salt but VideoCardz came across a leak of a system that claims to be using a Threadripper 3980X processor with 48-cores. The screenshot indicates a 2.8-2.9GHz baseclock, the upper side would be the same as the 3990X.
Disclaimer: such screenshots are very easy to fake. Furthermore taking a photo of the screen does not improve the credibility of this leak. Yet, we expected 3980X for a long time, so it would make perfect sense to expect this SKU at some point. Nevermind the ‘leak’.
At the moment, the highest-core parts in AMD's 3rd gen Threadripper lineup are the 32-core 3970X and 64-core 3990X.
