Twitter user Longhorn reports GitHub code reveals Microsoft is working on 64-bit support for the ARM version of Windows 10. At the moment, ARM laptops with Windows 10 use the WOW64 emulator to run 32-bit Windows code on ARM-based systems but this trick does not make it possible to support 64-bit code.

The GitHub commitment, made by Kenny Kerr, Engineer on the Windows team at Microsoft, reveals this new architecture is called ARM64EC:
Now a recent GitHub commit noticed by twitter account Longhorn explicitly mentions support for x64 code emulation on ARM64.

The architecture will reportedly be called ARM64EC, for x64_64 on ARM64 machine types.
With 64-bit support in the works for the ARM version of Windows 10, one of the issues of this platform may be solved soon.
