Last week's free GTA V offer (which is still available until May 21) resulted in a big traffic spike for the Epic Games Store. But this isn't the first time Epic Games has been trying to lure people to its store with free games. PCGamesN calculated that since the store's launch 18 months ago, Epic Games has given away $2,140.94 worth of free games.

So far, GTA V is the most notable free game offered by Epic Games, but in total the publisher has now offered 108 free games since the launch of its store. This included various indie games but also bigger titles like the Batman: Arkham and Lego Batman trilogies.
We added up the full list of 108 free games that Epic’s had on offer since launch, using the regular sale price of the base versions of each game – the versions of the software that have been offered as the freebies, basically. Sure, some of these games have been available deeply discounted or free elsewhere, but we’re going with the non-sale price as a rough gauge of how valuable each title is.
Whether this is a successful move remains to be seen. So far, Steam still reigns supreme.
