The Information claims Microsoft has the games division of Warnes Bros. in its crosshairs. Besides the software giant, game publishers Activision, EA, and Take-Two have reportedly also shown interest in buying Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
An acquisition of the business, which consists of game development studios scattered around the U.S., Canada and the U.K., would help Microsoft expand the game-making capabilities of its Xbox group. But Warner’s parent, AT&T, hasn’t yet decided whether to sell the business. It is weighing the possibility as it looks at ways of paying down its $154 billion in debt, which stems partly from its 2018 acquisition of Time Warner, now known as WarnerMedia.
WB Games has quite a lot of interesting IP, including Batman, LEGO, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings. It's been rumored for several weeks now that WB Games' owner is exploring a sale. Microsoft is definitely the largest interested party -- with very big pockets too.
