The primary means of distribution will be digital but there will also be a DVD release for nostalgic gamers. Eurogamer reports the game will use 10 double-layer DVDs. The physical release will be published by Aerosoft, which closed a deal with Microsoft to bring the two boxed versions of this simulator to customers in Europe.
The boxed release features the Flight Simulator code itself (which is said to be relatively small) plus about 90GB of the virtual world it's set in. There's also optional streamed content as well as optional third-party files. There will be a standard edition for 69.99EUR and a premium edition (with more planes and airports) for 129.99EUR.
Eurogamer speculates 10-discs may be a new record:
Is 10 discs a record for a video game? It might be. Roberta Williams' 1995 point-and-click Phantasmagoria came on seven discs. 1998 point-and-click Black Dahlia came on eight discs. 2004 MMO EverQuest 2 came on nine discs (with one bonus disc included). I remember The Secret of Monkey Island 2 came on 11 floppy disks for the Amiga, but that was diskettes, not discs. Different ball game.
