Crucial X6 SSD offers up to 2TB of external storage

The importance of backups can't be understated. Ideally, for important data, you should at least ensure you have a backup stored at an external location. While backing up data to a secondary internal disk is very easy for example, it may not provide ideal security in case a power surge, a fire or a PSU failure takes out your system.

Micron just revealed the Crucial X6, a compact portable SSD that offers up to 2TB of storage. The disk is 6.5-foot (2 meter) drop proof, shock and extreme temperature resistant. The Crucial X6 uses USB 3.1 Gen2 connectivity with a Type-C connector. It promises read speeds of up to 540MB/s. Crucial doesn't mention the write speed in its specifications sheet. Crucial sells the disk via its website, you can get a 1TB model for $154.95 and the 2TB version for $284.95.

With read speeds up to 540MB/s, this tiny drive performs 3.8 times faster than most portable hard drives. The Crucial X6 is durable too; it is drop-proof up to 6.5 feet and resistant to shock, vibration and extreme temperatures.

The X6 is compatible with the latest USB-C devices: PC, Mac, iPad Pro, Android and more. When used with the Crucial USB-C to USB-A adapter, the X6 also works with PS4, Xbox One and other USB-A devices.
