After Intel's misfortunes with not only the 10nm node but also the 7nm process, there's no doubt that TSMC is now the world leader in semiconductor manufacturing. The Taiwanese foundry has a long list of major clients and is known for being able to deliver on its promises.

South Korean rival Samsung wants a larger slice of the foundry business but so far Samsung has struggled to attract clients as TSMC not only has technological superiority, but also an impressive track record and predictability as major assets.

Citing a report from a Chinese-language DigiTimes report, WCCF Tech writes it seems unlikely that Samsung will be able to beat TSMC by 2030:
DigiTimes also reports that if TSMC continues its winning run and if Samsung does not have a reply when it comes to high yield and an improved node, then the Korean giant may not be able to beat TSMC by 2030. Not just this, but the fresh report also states that Samsung may have problems in improving profitability down the road. As an example, TSMC is rumored to deliver 80 million A14 chips to Apple fabricated on the 5nm node, so it just shows how far ahead the company is against its biggest rival in the foundry business.
