Good news for folks who are interested in the upcoming The Ancient Gods DLC from id Software. Despite being an expansion for DOOM Eternal, it appears The Ancient Gods series will not require the original game. In an interview with PCGamesN, it was revealed by id Software executive producer Marty Stratton that it's a standalone expansion.
“When we look at how many people have played through the game we have a large percentage – higher than 2016 – that have completed it, so you’re always looking at that and seeing how far players make it through your game,” he says. “It’s important as we want the DLC to reach as many people as possible. In fact, you don’t even need to own Doom Eternal to buy the DLC and play it.”
Stratton also says that The Ancient Gods two-parter will not be of a smaller scope than the original game. id Software is reportedly treating this DLC as a "two-part film" with the goal of making it every bit as grand as the main game.
