Before the COVID-19 pandemic, it was expected that memory prices would go up. As you may have noticed, that forecast got severely disrupted and stuff like DDR4 memory modules is really dirt cheap right now.

DigiTimes reports memory chip makers are now sitting on a ton of inventory. Due to weak demand, inventory keeps piling up. Memory makers now have nearly four months worth of memory inventory on avverage, and for mobile DRAM the inventory levels are even higher.
Memory chipmakers hold nearly 4 months of inventories: Samsung Electronics and other major chip suppliers have held nearly four months of DRAM and NAND flash inventories on average, due to a slowdown in orders for datacenter applications and overall weaker consumer sentiment than pre-pandemic levels, according to industry sources.
