A week ago we wrote that NVIDIA's Ampere GPUs no longer have VirtualLink support. Support for this virtual reality standard was dropped because the industry doesn't seem to be adopting it. With no USB Type-C connector it's also not possible to use these cards in combination with USB Type-C monitors.

KitGuru picked up speculation that AMD may be going to other route. A new Linux patch for the AMDGPU kernel driver reveals some Big Navi GPUs may support the USB Type-C interface. This is kinda curious as up until now, AMD has no consumer video card with USB-C support.
Up to now, the only AMD graphics to receive support for USB-C connectors was the Radeon Pro W5700, a workstation graphics card which featured a USB-C port. Based on the latest patch for the AMDGPU kernel driver for Linux, it looks like it won’t be a dedicated feature for workstation graphics cards anymore and that Radeon RX gaming graphics cards will also start to come with.
