More details have emerged about TSMC's 3nm production plans. DigiTimes report the Taiwanese foundry expects monthly output of 55,000 3nm wafers in the second half of 2022. Production will be further ramped to hit 100,000 wafer starts per month in 2023.
Demand for TSMC's advanced process support has been strong. The foundry is set to move the 3nm node to volume production in 2022, with monthly output expected to reach 100,000 wafers in 2023. It remains to be seen whether Huawei - banished by the US from large parts of the IT world - could receive capacity support from TSMC again.
Demand for TSMC's cutting-edge nodes remains very strong. The firm is currently mass producing 5nm chips and it's believed that through the end of this year, the entire 5nm capacity is booked by Apple. The latter will use 5nm chips for its new iPhones, iPads, and the first ARM-based Mac computers.
