Last month, NVIDIA announced its plan to acquire chip designer ARM for $40 billion. The bold move could give NVIDIA access to a vital piece to conquer the datacenter market but gaining regulatory approval will be a major hurdle.

CNBC writes two technology investors made eight predictions for the industry over the next 12 months. One of those predictions is that NVIDIA will be blocked from taking over ARM. In the “State of AI” report published Thursday, tech investors Nathan Benaich and Ian Hogarth predict NVIDIA will fail to get regulatory approval.
Hogarth, who sold his start-up Songkick to Warner Music Group before becoming an angel investor, told CNBC: “We wouldn’t be surprised at all if it was blocked by somebody.”

That’s because there’s been a lot more discussion about “technological sovereignty” in the last few years, Hogarth said, before adding governments seem “a lot less afraid” about having those kinds of conversations.
