Merry Christmas to all DV Hardware readers!

Christmas time has arrived! It will be different than other years but I hope you all have a great time tonight.

Upcoming DV Hardware changes
I will use this post to provide a quick update about the future of this website. I'm sort of a fan of not changing things that aren't broken -- which is part of the reason why DV Hardware hasn't received a major redesign since 2003.

It's time to change this as the current design and site functionality no longer meets my needs. As such, a new design will be implemented. The ETA for this is January 2021. The goal here is to create a mobile-first, responsive website with a new house style.

I realized it's also time to get rid of the old "DarkVision Hardware" brand. A quick bit of history first. In the early 2000s, the site was launched as DarkVision. The original version was envisioned as sort of a web portal with a news component. In the beginning, all sorts of news were covered but after a couple of weeks it turned into a technology website.

The name changed to DarkVision Hardware and when I moved to paid hosting with a top level domain name the choice was made to abbreviate it to dvhardware.net because darkvisionhardware.net was way too long. I always kept DarkVision into the site's theming as sort of a hommage to the original version -- but with the redesign coming up it's time to finally get rid of this legacy component. The original "DarkVision" brand doesn't really fit with the site's content. At the moment, I'm still undecided whether the new house style will use "DV Hardware" or "DVHARDWARE". I'm leaning towards the latter, a more aggressive all caps version.

Merry Xmas
