Monstru from Romanian tech site Lab501 scores a world exclusive by posting the first preview of a Core i7-11700K engineering sample. The 28-page long article offers an early look at the performance of Intel's Rocket Lake-S. Intel is still optimizing Rocket Lake-S so the final retail product may be faster. The 11700K is an eight-core, sixteen-threaded 14nm chip with a 3.6GHz base clock and up to 5.0GHz Boost.
Although this is actually the first comprehensive test of the processor, the CPU is by no means a retail product. The Core i7-11700K CPU that was secured by the outlet is an engineering sample. As noted, Intel is still pushing microcode updates and it is possible that even this ES might still see a performance uplift ahead of launch.
A quick look at the benchmark shows the 117700K beats the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X in 3DMark, is roughly on-par in real-world video games, and is slower in Cinbench.
