The Chinese-language version of DigiTimes claims Apple has asked LG to develop a foldable OLED screen for a future iPhone device. The news site says Apple has asked LG for assistance, but it's unknown whether the models made by LG will be picked for mass production. Last year, there were similar rumors about Apple trying out foldable screens from Samsung.
Samsung has been rumored to be Apple's supplier of choice for an OLED foldable display and the company was said to have provided Apple with a large number of foldable display samples for testing last year, so it is unclear how the news of a collaboration with LG fits into this. Apple has used both LG and Samsung OLED displays for the ?iPhone? to date, and it is possible that the display for the long-rumored foldable ?iPhone? may be provided by both suppliers.
According to the rumor mill, Apple is working on an iPhone with a foldable 7-inch OLED panel. This device could hit the market in 2023. The Cupertino-based firm has been experimenting with foldable displays since 2016, but so far this research hasn't resulted in a mass-market product.
