Howto: Canon PowerShot S45 not recognized in Windows 7/8?

Upgraded your computer to Windows 7 or 8 and found out that you can no longer transfer pictures from your Canon PowerShot S45 (or other Canon cameras) to your PC because there's no Windows 7/8 driver available?

There's a simple way to make it work:

  • First make sure the camera is not connected to your computer.

  • Activate the camera and press the "Menu" button.

  • Go to the "Tools" menu and navigate to "Communication"

  • Change this setting from "Normal" to "PTP"

  • Windows should now be able to recognize the camera's CF card.
