OCZ ATV Turbo 4GB USB stick review
The ATV Turbo has an orange LED. This LED lights up when you connect the drive to one of your USB ports and blinks when you're transfering data.
All tests were done on the following system:
Test system
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 processor with OCZ Vendetta heatsink
- Asus Commando motherboard
- ASUS EN7300GS/HTD 256MB
- 2GB OCZ Flex XLC PC2-6400 CL3 memory
- Seagate 320GB HDD
- CoolerMaster Cosmos case
- PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750 PSU
- Dell 2407WFP LCD display
- Operating system: Windows XP SP2
Now lets take a look at how fast this drive really is. Here are the results of the HD Tach Quick Bench:
An average read speed of 32.7MB/s with short bursts of 35MB/s and 0.7ms average access times! The performance of this drive in HD Tach is really good. Average read speeds of 32.7MB/s put this drive between the fastest USB sticks available on the market.
ATTO Disk Benchmark
The second test I use to bench the performance of flash drives is ATTO. I configure this program to transfer 8MB of data to the flash drive in blocks from 1KB to 1MB.
When you transfer files bigger than 128KB to the drive you can expect read speeds of more than 30MB/s and write speeds of over 23.5MB/s. The Super Talent 200x that I reviewed a couple of months ago was a bit faster in ATTO but not by a large margin. The performance of the ATV Turbo is definitely on par with the fastest USB sticks available on the market today. The write speed didn't reach 30MB/s in my tests but according to OCZ that's only possible on motherboards with the NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI chipset.
