TRENDnet TV-IP262P IP camera review

Testing
After setting up the camera, here's a look at the image quality. It looks relatively decent for a camera in this price range but it still leaves a lot to be desired.

Next is night vision, this feature lets you see in the dark but only for up to a couple of meters of course.

testing

A livestream of your camera can be viewed remotely via the included web software. There are a lot of options and you can configure motion detection and which action the camera should take when it encounters certain events. The biggest letdown is that the web software feels very outdated, it could really use a HTML5 makeover. The smartphone app, on the other hand, works flawlessly.

Conclusion
One thing to take in mind is that despite the TRENDnet TV-IP262P's retail price of around $230 (180EUR), this is still seen as a low-budget solution in the home surveillance market. A professional product from a firm like Axis will cost you a lot more and in this case you get what you paid for. The TV-IP262P doesn't contain a single motor so tilting, panning and focusing all has to be done manually which can be quite frustrating. Additionally, the image quality is mediocre at best but on the plus side the night vision is pretty good. Other than that, the enclosure is pretty decent and the device is easy to setup and operate.

The Good Stuff
- Easy to setup
- Night vision works relatively well
- Comes with a smartphone app
- Feature-rich software

The Bad Stuff
- Image quality not that great
- No auto focus (or easily adjustable focus)
- Manual tilting and panning
- Software not very intuitive
- Web interface feels outdated (ActiveX, Java)

I give the TRENDnet TV-IP262P camera a 7.5/10.
