2.1 million households use Skype, followed by Vonage and Time Warner Cable which are used by 1.7 and 1.6 million households, respectively.

The research found that 12 percent of those households use a software-based VoIP client like Skype and that 49 percent of those with VoIP discontinued their regular phone service.
